Orlando Jones Fired From American Gods "Too Black"

Recently Orlando Jones gave everyone a brief explanation as to why he will no longer be on American Gods. Back in September of this year, Orlando was fired by Charles "Chic" Eglee (producer behind The Shield, The Walking Dead, and Hemlock Grove). Orlando claims he was informed his character Anansi also known as Mr. Nancy was too militant and the character wouldn't be a good influence on African Americans.

American Gods is produced by Frementle, created by Neil Gaiman and taking over the helm as creative partner along with Neil is producer Charles Eglee. Framentle has been caught in controversy before this incident as well. Gabrielle Union and Nick Cannon have come out before claiming Frementle doesn't treat certain actors and actresses as well as others. Gabrielle Union has told the media there is a culture there that isn't favorable towards minorities and in particular African/Black Americans. Because of this, both Nick Cannon and Gabrielle Union are showing support for Orlando Jones. Racism and anti-Blackness in Hollywood and most industries, has been rampant for decades. This is why it is extremely important for audience members and Black Hollywood to open up communications with each other. Recently LaKeith Stanfield was on Thought Crimez discussing anti-Blackness from certain Black media outlets backed by White corporations. It is becoming increasingly clear, that more people in Black Hollywood need to do what Tyler Perry has done and that is build your own; not only in production companies, but distribution as well. With the internet and mobile phones being the center-piece of viewership for most people around the world, it is time for African/Black Americans to utilize these tools with their own streaming services.
